You would think attending a massive world-wide event like the Olympics, in Vancouver B.C. would be—well—crowded. Thousands upon thousands of people attended the games on Whistler Mountain and Cypress Mountain. Lines of people streamed out of the sky train stations and SeaBus station, however the friendly folk of Canada have an incredible transit system.

Tom and I dashed out of the hotel today and made a beeline for Hudson Bay Company–the only store that carries Olympic paraphernalia. Everyone in town is wearing red knit mittens with a white mapleleaf on the palm and the Olympic rings on the top.

Yes, it’s rainy. Yes, the wind is howling and the 2010 Olympic flame is blowing sideways leaving my umbrella to resembles a closed tulip, but the enthusiasm for the Olympic games is infectious

We tried the door to the intriguing shop—locked. Pressed our noeses against the window of antiques—lots of them, and the shop is shut up tight as a drum. All the stores are closed in Lahinch, County Clare.

I want to be a hurler—not the drink and spew type of hurler but a person who plays the game of Hurling. Hurling is the National Gaelic game in Ireland. The equipment includes a paddle and a schliver or a ball–that’s it.

My cousins and I hiked along the tree lined lane from Killeney depot to Dalkey village. The view overlooked the Irish Sea and was actually quite like the Puget Sound. On our hike, we spotted a giant construction crane along this long narrow road of million dollar homes.

The title says it all—if we had to live off the sea here in Cortez Bay—we would starve. Fortunately there are mussels on the beach and of course oysters—too numerous to count. Speaking of oysters . . .funny story that.
