Last week I was in Utah at the Sundance Film Festival. By happenstance Sundance coincided with a therapy trip for me. Seriously. I have lymphedema in my left leg and well, it’s a long story but if you are interested in medical stuff, you can follow up on my lymphedema blog. My surgery and follow up treatment are documented. But I digress.

I’m tired of getting lost in Genoa, and the pigeons eat my breadcrumbs as fast as I drop them. The life of a Genoa shut-in doesn’t appeal to me either so I have a new system for getting around town. Actually its pretty much the same system I used in Seattle before Craig installed a GPS in my car.

LANDMARKS. Duh. As long as the landmarks don’t move—I’m good. So first there is the guy in the tunnel. Crossing the street is too dangerous, thats what the tunnel is for. Wish I would have figured that out the first time I was here but I didn’t get hit by a car so its all good. Tunnel dude and I greet each other everyday with waves and cious and whatever else he says. He is always in the same place so I consider him a landmark. He doesn’t move.

Next I walk past many enticing shops. I do love Italian fashion, but I digress. My next landmark is the guy on the horse. He’s definitely a landmark because he is a statue! Here he is:

After the dude on the horse, I come to the fountain. I love the fountain, especially on a sunny day and everyday has been sunny, but the Italians dress like they are expecting a winter storm!  They simply won’t take off their coats, scarves or gloves. I mean I’m simply sweltering in just a t-shirt with a sweater. I haven’t worn my coat once! But back to the topic. Here is the fountain!

So if I keep track of at least these two landmarks, I can walk in a circle. Wait, who wants to just walk in a circle? Certainly not I! I’m an intrepid explorer . I found another landmark—sort of. Here she is—and no she didn’t move when I was shopping on this street!!

BTW—I made it home before dark and the guy in the tunnel was still there!

Jester landmark

The fountain—a great landmark and perfect place for lunch.

Dude on horse.

Genova—Today I had to find the Il Mondo, the language school which turns out was in the midst of all the flood water destruction so it was a mess and workers were cleaning the streets and then all the shops were open with HUGE sales.

Laura shared about a tool she uses to help stay focused called Freedom. This program restricts your access to the Internet for an amount of time that you decide. Once that time is up, you can then access the Internet. For Laura, this gets rid of the temptation to check email during writing time (especially during that time before she gets in her writing zone).

A group of 15-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Dairy Queen next to the Ocean View restaurant because they had only $6.00 among them and Jimmy Johnson, the cute boy in Social Studies, lived on that street.
